The Housewife Action Painting project was a direct challenge to the oppressive and restricting nature of ‘modern’ motherhood. I tied myself to a tree with a bungee cord and filmed myself trying to reach a canvas at the end of a long stretch of paper. The canvas represented my own needs and the space in-between, the compromises and struggles that mothers experience as they lose themselves to the domestic. I then used the film stills from these performances to inform a body of work.
